3 of the best actress/supporting actress nods this year are linked by royal blood.
* Judy Dench played Queen Elizabeth 1 (and won a best supporting oscar) and Queen Victoria (nomination)
* Helen Mirren has been nominated for best actress for portraying Queen Elizabeth 2. She's won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role as QE1 in the mini-series Elizabeth
* Cate Blanchett was nominated (she wuz robbed by Gwynnie in her pink prom dress!) for playing QE1 (same year that Judi Dench won for playing an older version of the Queen)
My friend M and I have an annual bet on who will win at the Oscars. If the movie she picks wins, I will take her to dinner at an Italian restaurant. If I win, she takes me to dinner at a Middle Eastern restaurant. The hardest part is sometimes matching the restaurant to an element in the movie choice.

Treat the winner instead to British food? Hmmm.. I don't know about that. Where is there good British fare here? Prince of wales is closed...
Hmmm, can't think of any British pub/restaurant around these parts. Maybe in Burgos.... Thank goodness my friend didn't choose to bid on The Queen for best pic! But then I could always take her to Queens (heehee) if she had and it wins.
I always think of Cate as British, not Australian. She's got more of that classic dramatic training that seems to be missing in other Aussie actresses of her age range. Did you hear that there's a sequel to "Elizabeth" later this year? Clive Owens will play Raleigh, and Cate will reprise the role of Elizabeth. Same director too!
Katrina, hallmark channel will show Elizabeth again (I think it's Feb 10). Catch if it's on. Otherwise maybe there's a dvd copy floating around.
